I was diagnosed with a herniated disk in my back. It affected how I played and my quality of life tremendously. I decided to seek out treatment from renowned back specialist, Dr. Frank Cammisa. Dr. Cammisa successfully treated the injury and communicated with me on a weekly basis throughout the remainder of the season. He played an important role in making sure I was healthy and ready to play. I got back to my full ability and was traded to the New York Yankees in July, where I finished the season strong.

Had herniated discs L4-L5 and L5-S1 with L5 vertebrae also pressing on the nerve bundle. Dr. Hughes always treated me with respect, gave me comprehensive and honest answers to my questions and allowed me the courtesy to re-question issues that weren't 100% clear to me. My recovery was and still continues to be slow, however, there is continued progress. I feel that some time next winter, I'll be back. Hopefully before our 30th Annual ski trip. I am very grateful for Dr. Hughes and the entire HSS team for getting me Back in the Game!

Today, I can do all of the things I love to do, including running (and I WILL run a marathon one day). I am careful to listen to my body but I am miles ahead of where I was two years ago. I will forever be grateful to HSS and the work that Dr. Sama and Dr. Kelly did for me. The doctors and the staff at HSS from the top to the bottom are amazing. I felt like I was so much more than a patient, I was more than an athlete, I was a human being.
